Pcb ballast potting material
Splet12. avg. 2010 · Fluorescent light ballasts manufactured before 1978 may contain PCBs. Ballasts manufactured after January 1, 1978 should not contain PCBs and are required by law to contain a label that states that no PCBs are present within the units. PCBs can be rapidly absorbed through the skin. http://www.schaedler.com/Portals/0/PDFs/SYD-Recycling-Guide-Lamp-Ballasts.pdf
Pcb ballast potting material
Did you know?
SpletIf the ballast does contain PCBs, they are located inside the small capacitor or in the surrounding potting material. There would be approximately 1 to 1½ ounces of PCBs in the capacitor itself and lower levels in the potting compound, a black, tar-like substance that encapsulates the internal electrical components. SpletEncapsulation Resins. Potting and encapsulation resins offer the highest level of protection for PCBs. Resins can be applied from 0.5 millimetres thick upwards, and are generally applied much thicker than this. The increased thickness leads to a significant increase in weight and often results in a greater per unit price than a coating. Splet01. jul. 2024 · Two-component epoxy potting material is hydroscopic – it will absorb moisture from the air leading to a mottled surface appearance called “amine bloom”, so it is important to use fresh chemical compounds that have been stored in a low-humidity, temperature-controlled environment.
SpletIdentify potting material on PCB and help removing it. I'm trying to identify a potting on a small PCB circuit board. It must be quite maleable and 'tough' to handle the jarring and occassional stress because the component is put under pressure. My understanding is that it probably won't be Epoxy as it's too hard and will crack under stress. Spletanalyzed for PCBs or assumed to contain PCBs. The potting material in PCB FLBs manufactured prior to July 2, 1979, frequently contains concentrations of PCBs over 50 ppm. EPA generally does not recommend opening the FLBs just to sample the potting material due to the risk of PCB exposure.
